I've been using Great News recently, and before that I used SharpReader. Great News is the nearest thing I've found to a Windows version of a river-of-news style reader, as advocated by Dave Winer. Both are free.

I use NetNewsWire on my Powerbook. Works a treat and means I keep an average of around 10000 posts offline for fast browsing. It housekeeps them away and manages subscriptions well. Theres a little add on called Mars which allows editing for cross posting to another blog.

I use it to speed read and flip into safari when I want to go blogging (like now). All intuitive. If you dont already use a mac, get an iBook or something to see how all of this can be done without button bloat ;-)

I quite like RSS Bandit - primary complaint is the icon and stupid name, but the functionality is pretty good. It's open source and uses the .NET framework (whether that's a good thing I'll leave for you to decide).

Safari Obviously that's limited, and not perfect, but the other good RSS reader is NewsFire. Once you have what they have in common, you have Safari. There is an operating system called, they tell me, William Henry Gates III, which sells you the same old non-functioning crap time after time. Idiots buy it. I wouldn't.

I use Newsgator, a plug-in for Outlook with a synchronised online service (and i think it also ties in with Feeddemon). It has a number of issues, some overcome by use of outlook 'search folders', but i find it works well enough for me.

If you were to go for an online service then i quite like the look of Feedlounge. Don't use it personally but did use Alex King's 'Tasks' and was very happy with the look/feel/intuitiveness of it for me...

Oops - cancel my comment. Bloglines is web based.

Before that I used FeedDemon, but that isn't free anymore.

You could try Bloglines, it isn't quite as timely as going directly to the site, but it stays in sync wherever you read.

You can find a load of readers at: http://allrss.com/rssreaders.html

I use SharpReader on my PC/Laptop (http://www.sharpreader.net/) and Egress (http://www.garishkernels.net/egress.html) on my PocketPC. And quite happy with them both. I also like RSSOwl (http://www.rssowl.org/overview) mainly because it runs on the main platforms (Mac, Linux, PC).

Well yes and no. I can heartily recommend Net News Wire Lite, but sadly it's only available for the Mac. So I guess you have two options... 1. Get a Mac, or 2. Try FeedReader which is my favourite in the win32 world...
