“Congratulations! You have been appointed to serve as an Election Inspector!”
September 23rd, 2003The California Gubernatorial Recall Election, most famous for being the possible start of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s polticial career, has inspired some blogs - the experiences of a election inspector, candidate and a total cynic - for example.
Of course, this may all be quite irrelevant since the election has now been postponed, although when it does go ahead, at least there will be voters turning up - unlike the poor sod who the only candidate in an Alabaman election was yet didn’t get elected.
Why the interest in California? Well, Californians are mainly disgruntled with the power cuts (thanks to energy deregulation) and the $38bn deficit that Davis has run up. And who else has been linked to an energy scandal and presides over a massive deficit? Why, George Bush! Thanks to Iraq, the economy and the poor state of the budget, that 2004 election isn’t looking so safe any more, especially after the introduction of Wesley Clark into the fray.
