“Rooney” would have to go on a double word score, natch

June 22nd, 2004

Forget the other “Best of Euro 2004″ XIs you’re going to see, this is the one that counts. The team of players that would best help you out if you were playing a game of Scrabble:

Quim (Portugal)
Zirnis (Latvia)
Zwyssig (Switzerland)
Yevseev (Russia)
Grygera (Czech Republic)
Peev (Bulgaria)
Xavi (Spain)
Srna (Croatia)
Prso (Croatia)
Makaay (Holland)
Vryzas (Greece)

(No room for Lizarazu, after I remembered that (a) You only get one Z in Scrabble and (b) His name is more than 7 letters long. Though I suppose you could do something funky with blanks)

If there was already one Z on the board, and you had A A I U L R Z, you could not only get Lizarazu, but extra points for using up all of your letters! Having said that, Zwyssig is blatantly the best. Or Quim, because that’s funny.

But you only ever get one Z in the tiles provided, so you’d have to use a blank to make the second one.

I’m gonna have to go with Yevseev or Makaay - gets rid of all those horrible extra vowels you can get…

Btw Tom, you still up for helping me produce WickyPedia?

    Darn. I meant to write A A I U L R [blank]. Ah well.

I suppose usefulness depends on if you want to get rid of annoying vowels or score big. That’s why Scrabble is such an enthralling game, I guess..

And yeah, I’m well up for helping out with WickyPedia, WiggerPedia or even my new idea of RikkiPedia (entirely based on the life and works of Rikki Lake)…
