Another great find on Boing Boing - a percussion orchestra version of ‘Paranoid Android’ (mp3). It’s fantastic, I can’t stop listening to it.

According to Popbitch and, er, CNN, William Shatner is doing a cover of “Common People” by Pulp (in a duet with Joe Jackson). Should be interesting…

Previewing next seasons bootlegs: everyone will be going crazy for DJ Twatshack’s Shatner, Folds and Jackson v. Hassle the Hoff mash-up Uncommon People. S Club Juniors will record a version of the track, which gets to number 3 in the UK charts. Twatshack is not credited.

Brad Mehldau’s version of “Paranoid Android” has some wonderful moments too, but it only just hangs together through sheer will and musicianship.
Everything he does on this album was recorded live. No overdubs. No edits. Shockingly accomplished. And, because he is so secure in his technique and sense of melody and everyone around him is so right it’s listenable even if you don’t have a goatee and rollneck. “When It Rains” is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I’ve ever heard.
Nice.
