Shatner’s big croon

July 22nd, 2004

All you people who have been Googling for William Shatner’s much-anticipated cover of Pulp’s “Common People” and only finding this - your prayers (as well as mine) have now been answered - a decent-sized snippet [Quicktime, 1.2MB] has been released online (via Chocolate and Vodka).

Even if you’re not a Pulp or Shatner fan, I implore you to listen, it’s gloriously good, bad, and everything else, all at once.

Oh great. My brain just launched legal action against my ears. The ears are countersuing, claiming my brain made my fingers click the link in the first place.

Small question: what’s with the slight mockney accent on the chorus? Incredible. Wow. Ouch. Help. Must listen again…

(It’s because it’s not Shatner on the chorus, it’s Joe Jackson, says Tom answering his own question.)

Ha ha! You didn’t think it was Shatner singing the chorus as well, did you?

  4. tom Says:

Well, er, I didn’t twig the first couple of listens.

    *hides in embarassment*

Then I worked out it wasn’t him. However, wasn’t until today I found out who was actually responsible, however, which is what explained the Brit accent.
