Ow…

Just got back from the Make Poverty History march… had a bloody good time but boy do my feet hurt (shouldn’t complain, though). In short - it was peaceful, good-natured and enjoyable, just like every protest should be. Stand by for about a million photos on photostream the moment I get hold of a proper internet connection…

The calm before

Alright… a quick pre-G8 post. After weeks of hype, it looks like Edinburgh’s suddenly realised at the last minute that there’s this big demo on… but even so, it’s still pretty low-key. Plenty of shops have politely announced they’re shutting for the weekend, but the only one I’ve seen board up its windows so far is a branch of Victoria Wine. The rally site on the Meadows is slowly emerging, but it’s not very much at the moment - when I crossed them this morning, it was only a few burger vans and the odd half-finished marquee. There aren’t that many more police around either. About the only thing that has changed is the sudden increase in people with backpacks and different hairstyles wandering round the streets, looking for accommodation.

All in all, it looks pretty peaceful - I’m just hoping it stays that way…
